Shaftsbury Solid Waste Facility Rules

The Town of Shaftsbury appreciates your cooperation with these rules in order to provide a more safe, enjoyable, and efficient operation.

Recycling is mandatory when using the Shaftsbury Solid Waste Facility and penalties are imposed for violations.  Residents and businesses must dispose of all recyclables according to the instructions provided in the recycling handout.  Attendants are on duty to offer and provide assistance.  For more information, see the page on recycling.

Hazardous waste cannot be discarded as normal trash and must be disposed of during biannual collection events (announced beforehand).  At these events we collect “button” or “watch” batteries, thermometers, paint, solvents, anti-freeze, insecticides, aerosols, all mercury containing products, etc. No radiological, pharmaceutical or biomedical waste will be accepted on the hazardous waste day or at the Transfer Station.  Call the Town office for information about where to dispose of this type of waste.
