The Road Foreman, or commissioner, plays an important part in many Vermont towns as the individual hired by the selectboard to oversee the maintenance of the town’s highways.
Shaftsbury's Road Foreman oversees a five member full time highway department as he carries out the orders of the selectboard. This is true whether the road commissioner is elected by the voters or is appointed by the selectboard. In Shaftsbury the Foreman is appointed by the selectboard.
Shaftsbury's Road Foreman also inspects and approves all new roads or driveways before construction can begin. Please see the zoning permit application for additional information on driveway specifications under forms.
